Well its been another week of interesting developments all around Bristol so let’s get down to it with a little round-up of the more tasty morsels.
One of Bristol’s most talented up and coming artists Rory Doona has submitted a piece of artwork to Capcom’s Street Fighter 4 design competition. If he wins, his design will be featured on a huge amount of promotion, and it would be great to have Rory receive wider recognition.
Here’s his submission:
And here are details on how to vote for it:

You can catch Rory drawing live tonight (Tuesday 10th March) at Weapon Of Choice alongside Dylan Shipley. Get yourself down there and show your support!
Whilst we’re on the subject of art, the Crimes Of Passion show kicks off at the RWOE Academy on the 20th March. We’re telling you this now, because spaces are limited for the opening night so get in touch now to book a place and avoid disappointment. In their own words:
“This Spring Bristol’s oldest and grandest gallery, the Royal West Of England Academy is throwing open all 5 of it’s galleries to host a major show by 50 of the city’s best known and most successful graffiti and street artists. This is the first major show of its kind in the city since the Arnolfini’s groundbreaking 1985 show, Graffiti Art and is a full-blown celebration of the city’s rich and diverse contemporary scene.
Bristol has nurtured many of the UK’s most successful graffiti and street artists, including 3D, Inkie, Banksy, Nick Walker, Sickboy, Cyclops and TCF Crew, to name but a few. The city continues to be a breeding ground for a wealth of exceptional creative talent and continues to have one of the UK’s most diverse and thriving scenes.
Crimes Of Passion takes the love of (and heartfelt dedication to) the art form as its starting point, but is far from a typical gallery retrospective, all the artists will be showing completely new work, as well as installation pieces and working both directly onto (and into) the walls of the gallery.
Crimes of Passion will also include a citywide programme of large-scale painting, a photographic exhibition, a film season at local arts cinema The Cube (www.cubecinema.com) and a series of workshops and talks.

Also available is the charmingly titled Pigeon AIDS EP from leftfield merchants Pins & Dubs. Amalgamating genres and sounds into one big knockabout sound, it certainly makes for interesting listening.

Friday 13th may be unlucky for some – but not for Bristol’s clubland. As we’ve mentioned before, we’ll be running the second room this Friday at the newly-opened Basement 45 (formerly the Mandrake) for Empathy, so if you’re not one of the squillion people attending Bloc this weekend, come down for some quality beats!
Room2 – Byte : Bristol 365
POLESTAR Live (Glitchnight)
[SIC] (Drain Records / Dropkick Music)
KELLY TWINS (UFO/BYTE)
ANDY PAYBACK HIFI
DAVE KIRIK (Celebrating his Birthday)
If techno is more your thing, then head on over to Dojos for the ever-excellent Triptic as they have Swayzak as guests this month. Remember they run until 7am so there’s plenty of time to attend! In support is Buoyancy crew Lukas and Justin Gettings aka JG Alim.
Also on Friday is one of Bristol’s best nights for showcasing Bristol talent – Liquid Lounge. As always it’s on at the Croft, and this time round they have another quality line up as you can see.
Saturday’s pick of the action has to be Season Five – this crew is making leaps and bounds in pushing the most forward-thinking sounds in both Dubstep and D&B. This month they have a hot booking in versatile producer Breakage – as well as up and coming producer Untold. It all goes down at the Tube from 10pm on Sat 14th.
As a final note, keep an eye on the vastly improved Headfirst Calendar for updated listings in and around the Bristol area.
