After a bit of a break from the jet-set lifestyle of local blogging, B365 is back on it - and to celebrate, here's a bumper post to get us back on track with some of the astounding music eminating from this fine city right now.
First up we have to say a big WOAH! to the collective mentalism known as MICHAEL J ROCKS for giving up the amazing Symmetry Breaking mix of their own material. We're not going to oversell it - suffice to say it's some of the best music you'll hear all year - and it's free, so what else is there to discuss?

Next up is a sick little session off of Pollen Radio with three local selectors going places fast - TIME, SICKMAN D & EFA. This throwdown popped off a week or so back and is well worth picking up - the set is hot and heavy!

B365 Favourite DAVE BAIN has taken time out from creating awesome illustrations to take to the decks with his alter ego WAXMOUSE. And the results are suitably fantastic! His first podcast with cohort Pupfish is a great mix up of sounds and styles showing Mr.Bain is infuriatingly talented in two disciplines now...

Recently he dropped this devestating Dubstep mix which overnight banished all our growing boredom with the creative cul-de-sac the genre is heading down. A must have mix.

Well its been another week of interesting developments all around Bristol so let’s get down to it with a little round-up of the more tasty morsels.
One of Bristol’s most talented up and coming artists Rory Doona has submitted a piece of artwork to Capcom’s Street Fighter 4 design competition. If he wins, his design will be featured on a huge amount of promotion, and it would be great to have Rory receive wider recognition.
Here’s his submission:
And here are details on how to vote for it:
Click here to vote for Rory's artwork
You can catch Rory drawing live tonight (Tuesday 10th March) at Weapon Of Choice alongside Dylan Shipley. Get yourself down there and show your support!
Whilst we’re on the subject of art, the Crimes Of Passion show kicks off at the RWOE Academy on the 20th March. We’re telling you this now, because spaces are limited for the opening night so get in touch now to book a place and avoid disappointment. In their own words:
“This Spring Bristol’s oldest and grandest gallery, the Royal West Of England Academy is throwing open all 5 of it’s galleries to host a major show by 50 of the city’s best known and most successful graffiti and street artists. This is the first major show of its kind in the city since the Arnolfini’s groundbreaking 1985 show, Graffiti Art and is a full-blown celebration of the city’s rich and diverse contemporary scene.
Bristol has nurtured many of the UK’s most successful graffiti and street artists, including 3D, Inkie, Banksy, Nick Walker, Sickboy, Cyclops and TCF Crew, to name but a few. The city continues to be a breeding ground for a wealth of exceptional creative talent and continues to have one of the UK’s most diverse and thriving scenes.
Crimes Of Passion takes the love of (and heartfelt dedication to) the art form as its starting point, but is far from a typical gallery retrospective, all the artists will be showing completely new work, as well as installation pieces and working both directly onto (and into) the walls of the gallery.
Crimes of Passion will also include a citywide programme of large-scale painting, a photographic exhibition, a film season at local arts cinema The Cube (www.cubecinema.com) and a series of workshops and talks.
Exhibition venue:
Royal West of England Academy, Queen’s Rd, Bristol
Exhibition dates:
21st March – 2nd May

Friday 13th may be unlucky for some – but not for Bristol’s clubland. As we’ve mentioned before, we’ll be running the second room this Friday at the newly-opened Basement 45 (formerly the Mandrake) for Empathy, so if you’re not one of the squillion people attending Bloc this weekend, come down for some quality beats!
Room2 – Byte : Bristol 365
POLESTAR Live (Glitchnight)
[SIC] (Drain Records / Dropkick Music)
KELLY TWINS (UFO/BYTE)
ANDY PAYBACK HIFI
DAVE KIRIK (Celebrating his Birthday)
If techno is more your thing, then head on over to Dojos for the ever-excellent Triptic as they have Swayzak as guests this month. Remember they run until 7am so there’s plenty of time to attend! In support is Buoyancy crew Lukas and Justin Gettings aka JG Alim.
Also on Friday is one of Bristol’s best nights for showcasing Bristol talent – Liquid Lounge. As always it’s on at the Croft, and this time round they have another quality line up as you can see.
Saturday’s pick of the action has to be Season Five – this crew is making leaps and bounds in pushing the most forward-thinking sounds in both Dubstep and D&B. This month they have a hot booking in versatile producer Breakage – as well as up and coming producer Untold. It all goes down at the Tube from 10pm on Sat 14th.
As a final note, keep an eye on the vastly improved Headfirst Calendar for updated listings in and around the Bristol area.

After a weekend of the world apparently coming to an end due to some snow, BUG is back with some tasty treats for you. Coming up this week we have an interview with D&B heroes The Insiders as well as loads of downloads and more. So keep it locked to BUG.
First up make sure you keep an eye on On A Hype where they'll be keeping everybody up to date with all the latest UKHD mixes from their Passion FM radio show. The blog continues to impress and is a vital destination if you're looking for local news on garage, grime, funky and more.
There's a great interview with Rob Smith over at Highrise Clothing's blog. Chris Highrise is always raising the levels and bringing some quality content to his blog so keep checking back there. Its a fascinating in-depth read with one of the true legends of the Bristol music community, so get yourself over there to take a look.
Another BUG favourite in Peverelist has contributed a candid interview via Richard Carnage to Resident Advisor, a truly monumental interview in our opinion which covers some interesting ground. Good news also reaches us that Orchestral Lab by Guido will make it's release on Punch Drunk soon, which is cause for celebration if ever we heard it.
Last week we brought you the Bristol: Rise Up special from Mary Anne Hobbes show, and this week we had to include her first podcast for XLR8R. Normally we wouldn't feature mixes from artists outside of Bristol (kind of defeats the point of the blog otherwise!) - but this mix features seven Bristol-based artists so it seems churlish to not put it up!

Just a little heads up too: BUG will be going live this year all over Bristol, showcasing the best local artists in all manner of environments. For our first event, we'll be joining up with the legendary Empathy to provide you with some fantastic music at the newly launched Basement 45 (formerly The Mandrake) on Fri 13th March.
Unlucky for some maybe, but not anybody who ventures down to check out our room featuring long-time BUG favourite and GlitchNight mainstay Polestar alongside [SIC], The Kelly Twins, Andy Payback Hi-Fi and Dave Kirik. Something for everybody and all for a fiver in advance.
Back to present times and of course this weekend it's Valentines, so prepare to empty them wallets in the dim hope of a bunk up at the following events:
SeasonFive are really going from strength to strength at the moment and this event looks to be another step in the right direction with a rock solid line-up for the discerning amongst you.
If you fancy something a little more rough and tough then head down to Clockwork for Beat Bristol, with a seriously bass-heavy roster of big names.
If you prefer to party on Friday 13th instead (two this year - yikes!) then head down to The Croft for Liquid Lounge's 3rd Birthday, and with 3 amazing local bands and more DJs beside, this is definitely 100% BUG approved.

It's been some time now since Mary Anne Hobbes showcased the Bristol : Rise Up special back in December 2008, so BUG thought it was well worth putting up the full programme if you missed it. Put simply, this was a pivotal piece of programming which showed how far Bristol has come in terms of mutating the sound of Dubstep into something new and unique. A breath-taking display of sonic pyrotechnics from 12 of the city's best producers, it is an essential listen on many levels.
